What is HG1000?

HG1000 is an ambitious project where people in the Harrogate District are invited to do two things:

  1. To change the lives of 1000 children living in extreme poverty through child sponsorship with the Compassion programme. Compassion gives children the opportunity to lift themselves and their families out of chronic poverty. It gives access to healthcare, good nutrition and education.
  2. To buy 1000 water filters to give to families who don’t have access to clean water. For £50 we can buy a filter, ship it to the country where there is the greatest need, deliver it to a family’s home and train them how to use and maintain the filter. Each £50 will provide 1 million gallons of safe drinking water and as the average person only needs around 16,000 gallons in their lifetime; it literally provides a huge family with a lifetime of safe water. Currently 1 in 8 people don’t have access to safe water and 4000 children die each day as a consequence. You can change that horrendous and unacceptable statistic by sponsoring Phill. Phill would like to raise £10,000 and buy 200 filters.
